Buds

Each bud has a choice: it can produce a new stem and leaves or it can produce a flower. Buds vary in shape and size, but all provide a protective cover for the developing flower or leaf.  A multitude of branching patterns are evident resulting in helixes, starbursts and spirals.  Symmetry as well as asymmetry abound.
